Minehead Town Council can now confirm details on essential repair works to the ladies' toilet block at Summerland Road Car Park, following damage sustained from a vehicle collision in October 2024. The repairs will commence Monday, February 3rd, with completion expected by the end of February.
While temporary measures have kept the facilities operational since the incident, a complete reconstruction of the damaged wall is now necessary. The works will improve the building's durability and weatherproofing through modern construction methods, including a rendered finish that will enhance the facility's appearance.
The Council has worked hard to minimise disruption to this vital public facility. However, as this is an insurance-funded repair, options were limited to direct reconstruction of the damaged facility, and providing temporary alternative facilities during the works is unfortunately not possible. This does mean, both the Ladies and Changing Places Facilities will remain closed for the duration of the works. The men's toilets will remain accessible throughout the works where possible. While we anticipate being able to keep these facilities open, this will depend on maintaining safe access during construction and appropriate use by the public. The safety and wellbeing of our residents remains our top priority.
Minehead Town Council sincerely apologises for any inconvenience this essential work may cause to our residents and visitors. Alternative public toilet facilities are available at:
● Blenheim Gardens● Quay West Car Park● Warren Road (Opposite Butlins main entrance) More information on these toilets and where to find them can be found using this link.
The project will also incorporate additional maintenance work, including repairs to door frames and replacement of damaged doors, maximising the efficiency of the closure period. The reconstruction works are fully funded through insurance and will be carried out by a trusted local contractor.
We will keep people updated on the project's progress on the Town Council's website and social media channels.
